proactive people

"Love is a verb. Reactive people make it a feeling…if our feelings control our actions, it is because we have abdicated our responsibility and empowered them to do so. Proactive people make love a verb. Love is something you do; the sacrifices you make, the giving of self, like a mother bringing a newborn baby into the world."

"If you want to study love, study those who sacrifice for others, even for the people who offend, or do not love in return. If you are a parent, look at the love you have for the children you sacrificed for. Love is a value that is actualized through loving actions. Proactive people subordinate feelings to values. Love, the feeling, can be recaptured."

"It is amazing what can happen when you open your eyes to the world around you. It is amazing to be afraid--to feel it, to acknowledge it, to face it head on. And oh, Good Lord, is it ever amazing to be transformed by love in a way that awakens parts of you that needed to come alive." - Enjoying the Small Things (blog)

like wildflowers

Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered- how fleeting my life is.
You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand.
My entire lifetime is just a moment to You; at best, each of us is but a breath.
We are merely moving shadows...

psalm 39:4-6

The Lord is like a father to His children,
tender and compassionate to those who fear Him.
For He knows how weak we are;
He remembers we are only dust
Our days on earth are like grass;
like wildflowers, we bloom and die.
The wind blows, and we are gone—
as though we had never been here.
But the love of the Lord remains forever
with those who fear Him.

psalm 103:13-17
